In a previous post (check that out here), I talked about the exciting (and sometimes nerve-wracking) decision to open my own studio. Doing exactly what I am doing now, but bringing it all under one roof... Now, the dust has settled (mostly!), and I'm ready to share the next chapter: building our dream space.
The Reality Check:
Let's be honest, the "studio dream" is often romanticized. We envision beautiful, open spaces, filled with light and inspiration.
But reality, as it always does, had its own plans.
The space I chose was charming, but it needed to look a little different (in spite of those saying I should keep the big lettering spelling out 'shutters' on the wall!!).
Demolition, Design, and Dreams:
I knew the feeling I wanted to create: it can operate like a gym, but you walk in and it feels more like a yoga studio/living room. I wrestled with the delicate balance of functionality and aesthetics; how do you get gym equipment to feel less 'gymmy'? Multi-functionality was key! The first few weeks were a whirlwind of design, and endless decisions. And a lot of purchases (scary!).
In the end, I decided to not knock it about too much and go full scale demolition. I decided to approach it like I would my own house - let's live in it for a while (and have a house warming party!) before we decide on any other major changes we might like to make.
Because sometimes you have to live your way to the answer ;)
The Studio is More Than Just a Space:
More than just a physical space, our studio is a reflection of my passion, creativity, and belief in the power of shared experiences. It's a place for collaboration, inspiration, and the pursuit of our dreams. It's a place where our health doesn't have to fit into one box. It's a place to invite our whole health; a peaceful, beautiful place where we can lift weights, breathe, flow and chill on a sofa making friends.
Looking Ahead:
The journey continues. I'm still adding the finishing touches, constantly learning, and refining our vision. In fact, I'm sure I've only just started creating. But we wouldn't have it any other way. Building this studio is, and will be, a labor of love, and I can't wait to share it with the world.
Come July, I'll be moving all existing sessions over there (online sessions aren't affected).
Then I'll turn my attention to expanding the timetable, what we have on offer, and expanding our family!
Stay tuned for more updates and behind-the-scenes glimpses of the studio journey!
